Charities

Why not ride for a charity whilst taking part in the Big Wheel of Kent? These charities are currently involved:

Parkinson's UK

Parkinson's UK

Parkinson's UK is proud to have helped improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people affected by Parkinson’s. We bring people with Parkinson’s and their families together via our network of local groups, our website and free confidential helpline. Specialist nurses, our supporters and staff provide information and training on every aspect of Parkinson’s.

Your support ensures that as the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity we’re leading the work to find a cure. We also campaign to change attitudes and demand better services.

Our work is totally dependent on donations so thank you for helping us to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.

To obtain your fundraising pack and further information on how to support Parkinson's UK at the BWOK event please contact Alyson Smith, Regional Fundraiser – South East on email ajsmith@parkinsons.org.uk or telephone 0844 225 9843.

Pilgrim's Hospice

Pilgrims Hospices

Pilgrims Hospices vision is to be regarded as the leading provider of hospice and specialist palliative care services for the people of east Kent. We aim to sustain, develop and deliver a full range of in-patient, day hospice, community support, bereavement and pastoral care from our hospice sites at Canterbury, Thanet and Ashford. The focus of all our activity is the patient, families and carers.

Approximately 30% of people who die in east Kent every year are cared for by us and nearly half of all patients and families are supported in their own homes.

To keep delivering care to those that need it the most, Pilgrims Hospices has to raise over £9 million each year. Our services are provided completely free of charge and as a charity we rely heavily on donations. The NHS contributes around 25% annually - the rest is raised by the local community who fundraise tirelessly with the knowledge that over 80p in every £1 raised is spent directly on patient care. This is made possible by our 1,800 strong army of volunteers; without whom Pilgrims Hospices would not survive.

To receive further information on how to support Pilgrims Hospices at the BWOK event, please contact either Deborah Kellond, Regional Fundraising Manager - Canterbury and surrounding areas on e-mail Deborah.Kellond@pilgrimshospices.org or telephone 01227 812 621, or contact Joanne.Spiteri@pilgrimshospices.org and/or telephone 0775 385 0568.
